Sketching And Eating Through Europe: Part 1: Copenhagen, Denmark

I have done quite a bit of traveling but I had never been to Copenhagen before. What a beautiful week exploring this fun city. A friend and I met up at the airport and took a quick train ride to our hotel. If you know me at all I was excited as much for the architecture as I was for the food. And neither disappointed. A first stop was to Hart Bakery. I immediately got a strawberry tart and a broccoli cheese quiche.

Each day was filled with so much amazing art and I can tell you I almost hit my max! Hoping on a train out of the city about an hour away was the famous Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.  So much incredible works by all time favorites such as Robert Rauschenberg, Alexander Calder and Jean Dubuffet! The museum grounds had many sculptures outside with lovely forested areas to walk around in. My friend and I spent the whole day taking in the art, eating at the cafe, and enjoying the seaside views.

While we were there an art fair was taking place called CHART. Again a day filled with more art! This was a fun exhibition hall with only Scandinavian artists represented. Think of it like the indie art of the 21st Century. We rented bikes from our hotel (they were pink) and buzzed around the city. I also got to spend time with my Danish friend whom I met in Iceland back in 2019! Art residency friends unite!

Another beautiful day spending time in the morning at Darcy Kaffe  and yes that was a delicious cardamom bun! (They are everywhere in the city!) Took in the sites around and found our way to a fun ceramic studio. I wanted to buy all the little modern monsters. The Design Museum offered a history of an amazing collection of chairs and other Danish contributions to various design fields and innovation.

Biking is really the way to get around in Copenhagen. Everyone rides! From the architecture, to the amazing art museums, the gardens and parks, to the man made canals the line the center of the city- I can not wait to go back and explore more.

Some places worth noting if you are planning a visit:

Baest- had a lovely prefix meal

La Banchina- great place to take a dip and enjoy the local vibes

Reffen- all kinds of amazing food options right along the water

Enjoy!
